Job Description Summary

               

Shift: C Shift

The packaging utility operator will be able to safely and efficiently operate and adjust all equipment in multiple packaging area’s; monitors line flow and waste; corrects problems which affect quality and production costs; makes line changes as directed by the Production / Package Lead or Team Leader. The package utility operator will be willing and able to seamless change positions between current qualified jobs to meet plant needs on their respective shift. Package Utility Operators can be asked to bid into certain positions based on plant need.

Job Description

  • The Package Utility Operator position is designed to have associates trained/qualified to fill in on shift and for overtime where absences create a need for coverage.
  • When a Package Utility Operator employee is trained/qualified in more than one job that needs to be covered at the same time, the company will determine the priority as to which position to cover using the Package Utility Operator employee.
  • Should a Package Utility Operator employee who is training, not be able to meet the job qualification standards for the positions required the process will be followed as set forth in the handbook section covering Training, Pulling a Bid, and Disqualification and training will be discontinued.
  • Package Utility Operator will be included in the overtime rotation for the positions they are qualified for. If there is an absence that requires overtime from within that group of employees, the Package Utility Operator employee will be considered by seniority following the scheduling practices as if they were part of that workgroup.
  • The Package Utility Operator will be trained on set positions and for shift preference purposes will be eligible to move shifts only with those Package Utility Operator that can cover the same positions (i.e. an employee is trained to cover the ATL Operator and Package Operator positions. That employee may only bump within the group of Package Utility Operator operators trained for those positions).
  • The Package Utility Operator may be required to work any shift temporarily (Generally not to exceed 3 months) where they are needed for coverage.
  • Always maintains safe work practices and participates in safety programs and assures that safe work practices are followed in all work groups.
  • Must have the ability to communicate and work with other hourly associates and salaried personnel in a positive manner.
  • Learn and perform routine checks such as CIL’s, CL’s, and FSIL’s.
  • Reads, writes and communicates in English by using prints, sketches, diagrams, operating instructions and technical manuals.
  • Maintains 5S in area’s assigned and working.
  • Must be able to learn and demonstrate safe use and skilled application of tools, commonly used in this plant, in accordance with established practices and procedures.
  • Learns and performs frequent housekeeping to insure safe and clean conditions in all areas of responsibility. Supports and promotes CPS programs, such as 5S and Centerlining throughout plant
  • Must be able to work any shift, overtime and any or all days of the week in accordance with plant needs.

Basic & Preferred Qualifications

(Minimum qualifications required to successfully perform the job or be considered) Know limits of equipment and how to avoid deviations, capable of sound trouble shooting.

Education/ Certifications: (Required & Preferred)

High school diploma or GED is preferred.

Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees in the organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Environment/Demands:

  • Ability to lift-up to 50lbs pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently.
  • Exposed to a noisy environment that varies from hot to cold in temperature.
  • Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist and hand movements required for job actions and procedures.
  • Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment.
  • Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties. Ability to operate work related equipment
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually above 85dB and requires hearing protection.

  • Exposed to temperatures ranging from -20 degrees below zero to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in Freezer Operation and 37 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Plant Operation.
  • Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders on a regular basis.

A reasonable hourly estimate of the range for this role based on the variables previously mentioned is: $25.72 - $27.94
