Job Description Summary

               

The Environmental Manager will oversee and ensure the efficient and compliant operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF), while providing program oversight and strategic direction for environmental management at a large multi-line manufacturing facility. Reports to the Environmental Manager II and works with plant leadership to drive environmental compliance and support sustainability initiatives reducing waste, water, and energy while protecting the environment. Drives technical solutions and provides leadership and direction for environmental aspects of plant operations, including engineering and maintenance projects. Oversee and supervise junior level environmental professionals and technicians and/or operators. Participate in development of corporate environmental management system program and roll out implementation plans to establish an effective environmental management program at the facility.

Job Description

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the WWTP and WRRF to ensure efficient and effective treatment of wastewater, biosolids, and water resources.
  • Oversee the treatment processes, monitor plant performance, and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and capacity.
  • Ensure continuous optimization of water recovery, energy usage, and resource management.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and training to EHS Staff (with special focus on wastewater process support technicians) to build capabilities and ensure effective execution of EHS initiatives.
  • Ensure all facility staff receive appropriate environmental training
  • Track and manage annual submittals of Sustainable Development information (data, goals, award applications, etc.)
  • Prepare and implement corrective actions from the Environmental Review
  • Participate in environmental audit process at other facilities
  • Assist with management of Facility Environmental Program ensuring requirements are timely met and tracking is up to date. Owns accuracy of environmental KPSs, including review of environmental data/info to identify trends & potential areas for risk reduction
  • Develop Environmental risk register at each site
  • Communicate potential risks to facility operations leadership and corporate environmental leadership
  • Lead environmental incident management efforts to ensure timely reporting, accurate root cause analysis (TapRooT), and CAPA sharing.  Ensure effective corrective and preventive actions are developed and tracked to completion. 
  • Act as a liaison for the Company to regulatory agencies when needed (e.g., inspections, audits, committees, SME, etc.)
  • Participate in early management design and review process, management of change, and whenever new substances, processes, or procedures are introduced that may represent a new or previously unrecognized hazard to reduce risk potential and ensure compliance. Ensure plant capital and R&M projects are supported from an environmental perspective – identify potential environmental and sustainability impacts relative to project work
  • Participate in recruiting efforts and new hire onboarding

Basic & Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sciences (Engineering, Biology or Chemistry)
  • 3+ years progressive experience in the environmental/engineering field
  • Possess or be able to obtain Wastewater Class III operating license
  • Basic knowledge of EHS leadership functions
  • Experience with developing engineering scope for new equipment to fulfill compliance needs

  • Strong knowledge of operational practices for environmental control systems on water supply, wastewater, air pollution and solid waste.
  • Basic understanding of food processing sanitation and quality control needs in manufacturing consumer food products.

This compensation is specific to this position and takes into account a number of variables. Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range posted based on various factors, including, but not limited to, job duties, experience and expertise. A candidate’s work location could also impact the actual compensation being outside of the range to reflect local cost of labor. A reasonable annual estimate of the range for this role based on the variables previously mentioned is: $81,620.00 - $122,430.00
