Job Description Summary

               

The operator is responsible for the set up, start up, adjustment, and running of all equipment in the cold and package rooms. It is their responsibility, under the direction of the supervisor, to insure all packaging meets quality specifications for paper type, bag code, case code, case condition, and bag length. They are also responsible for cleaning the automatic product scales and baggers in a way that no foreign material is introduced into the product.

Job Description

  • Operate and adjust all equipment from the end of the freeze tunnel through packaging, including shakers, belts, feeders, scaling equipment, packaging machines, dyna cops, dyna packs, case settlers, gluers, and coders, to insure product is efficiently packaged according to product specifications. 

  • Keep package machines loaded with paper. 

  • Keep dyna cops loaded with cases. 

  • Monitor and adjust bag and case weights. 

  • Monitor bag coders and case coders. 

  • Monitor frozen waste at assigned frequencies.  

  • Regulate product flow through equipment and adjust bin dumps as necessary to achieve maximum packaging efficiency. 

  • Ensure bag lengths meet targets by monitoring and adjusting lengths. Advise supervisor if bag lengths cannot be obtained. 

  • Ensure proper paper and cases are used per product specification. 

  • Work to achieve minimum paper and case waste. 

  • Perform sanitation work as assigned by the supervisor to include scraping product feeders and product scaling equipment during downtime. 

  • Actively practice and abide by all Company work, safety and personal hygiene rules and regulations as outlined in the employee handbook. 

  • Actively be engaged in safety, participate in safety programs, safety activities, perform risk assessments and demonstrate ownership as well as leadership in personal safety and the safety of other team members.  Report all incidents, near misses, and any safety concerns. 

  • Help train new personnel in the position of  Package Operator. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel. 

Basic & Preferred Qualifications

EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS USED 

  • All equipment from the end of the freeze tunnel through packaging, including shakers, belts, feeders, scaling equipment, packaging machines, dyna cops, dyna packs, case settlers, gluers, and coders 

  • Equipment for cleaning including air hoses, water hoses, hand scrapers, brooms, shovels, squeezes, and rakes 

  • Paper roll hoist and a powered pallet jack 

 

EDUCATION 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  •  Must meet Sanitation qualification requirements .

  • Read, understand, and obey all plant rules and practices safety as outlined in the employee handbook. 

  • Must be conscientious and consistent in his/her work. 

  • Be knowledgeable of proper body mechanics and safe lifting techniques. 

  • Be knowledgeable of the potential hazards and safety procedures associated with the task being done.  

 

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in English. 

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to supervisors and other employees of the organization. 

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.  

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, climb 

  • ·Must have good eye-hand coordination. 

  • Must have normal finger dexterity and range of motion. 

  • Is required to reach with his/her hands and arms repetitively. 

  • ·Must be able to lift 50 pounds on frequent basis. 

  • ·Must be able to push and pull heavy items on occasion. 

  • ·Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • Will regularly work near moving mechanical parts. 

  • Is occasionally exposed to humid conditions as well as moderate heat and cold environments. 

  • May be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. 

  • Will regularly work in a work environment in which the noise level is usually very loud.

This compensation is specific to this position and takes into account a number of variables. Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to a candidate’s work location, job duties, experience and expertise. A reasonable hourly estimate of the range for this role based on the variables previously mentioned is: $25.33
